Concrete Finishers / Laborers

Remove existing concrete.  Set forms.  Spread, level, smooth & finish concrete.  Mold expansion joints & edges.

Minimum 2 years concrete experience preferred.

Will normally work 40 hrs/wk.  This is a time-limited position that will work for a maximum of 1,040 hours, until the work runs out or until the weather prohibits concrete work, whichever comes first.


Positions pay $12.00/hr & are not eligible for benefits.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs semi-skilled and skilled mechanical duties in the maintenance and repair of a variety of City vehicles and automotive equipment.  Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Service automotive equipment, including fueling, changing oil, adding various fluids as needed, replacing various filters, replacing windshield wipers, replacing light bulbs, lubricating as required, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs on automotive equipment (brake systems, fuel and hydraulic lines, electrical wiring, etc.).
  • Perform major repair operations (transmissions, rear ends, axles and brakes, etc.).
  • Rebuild packers (replacing floors and hopper bottoms, replacing or rebuilding hydraulic cylinders and packer panels, etc.).
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and diagnosis.
  • Perform state inspections.
  • Perform winterizing and pre-maintenance on engines and equipment.
  • Make occasional field road calls, repairing equipment when possible.
  • Road tests equipment to assess problems.
  • Perform light welding on equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for painting and perform minor equipment painting.
  • Repair and maintain shop equipment.
  • Perform pre-operation inspection of equipment, checking fluid levels, fuel level, oil level, tire air pressure, motor belts, and general condition of automotive equipment.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on department equipment and refer needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Complete work orders after each task assignment.
  • Order and pick up parts and supplies from vendors as needed.
  • Performs related as required.

 

Reports to the Automotive Services Supervisor.


 

REQUIREMENTS: Experience in automotive service work; graduation from a standard high school, supplemented by formal and/or informal training in the safe and effective maintenance and repair of automotive equipment; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License.  Possession of a West Virginia State Inspector’s license.


 

Pay rate – $12.71/hour.

GENERAL DUTIES:

Monitor cross walks / street intersections to ensure safe crossing by school children.

Pay Rate – $8.00/hour
These substitute positions work on as “as needed” basis to fill open shifts, cover for illnesses / vacations, etc. Many times there will be limited or no advanced notice of when these positions would be called to work.

Shifts are 1½ hours in the morning and/or 1½ hours in the afternoon. Hours are set based on the school assigned to.

No minimum number of work hours are guaranteed. When a “regular” shift opens, it is normally filled from the interested regular and substitutes crossing guards.

These are part-time positions. There are no benefits associated with these positions.

Temporary Laborers

The City of Parkersburg is looking for Temporary Laborers.

These are temporary positions that will work until the end of the season or for a maximum of 1,040 hours.

  • The positions pay $10.00/hour. ($10.50/hr Parks Evenings & Weekends position.)
  • There are no benefits associated with these positions.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Working a temporary position could potentially lead to permanent employment when positions open.

 


Parks – Evenings & Weekends

Provide general care and maintenance in the City parks during evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities: include, but are not limited to: mow & trim property throughout the City. Clean parks, restrooms, shelters, etc. Assist with other general maintenance/repair tasks.

Requirements: Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Knowledge of, & ability to use, mowing & trimming equipment needed. Must have the ability to interact with the public professionally.

Normally scheduled 40 hours per week. This position works a rotating 2-week schedule of evenings & weekends.

Example:

Week 1 – Mon. & Tues. off // Wed. – Sun. 3:00pm – 11:00pm
Week 2 – Mon. & Tues. 3:00pm – 11:00pm // Wed. & Thurs. off // Fri. – Sun. 7:00am – 3:30pm

  • Pay rate for this position is $9.25/hr.
