Chief of Police
The City of Parkersburg WV is seeking a Chief of Police to lead the premiere law enforcement agency in the Mid-Ohio Valley. The successful candidate will demonstrate a knowledge base, understanding and skill set to include:
- Experience in the supervision of sworn law enforcement personnel,
- Budget construction and management,
- Planning and engineering organizational goals and outcomes,
- Collaboration with neighborhood/community organizations and partner law enforcement organizations
- Strategic insights in the establishment of innovative policing strategies and mechanisms for improvement including training and organizational goals
- Demonstrated acumen and articulation of the role of technology in policing
- Media Relations
- Innovative strategies for the recruitment and retention of Police Personnel
- Ability to direct and assign personnel to meet the basic department and mission-critical needs as related to scheduling, assignment of resources, training, preparedness and staffing
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Eight years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement; graduation from a college or university with a degree in police science, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Considerable command experience, including not less than 8 years of supervisory duties with a full-time law enforcement agency.
CHARTER PROVISIONS: Shall be appointed by the mayor with the approval of City Council; shall be a resident of the City and, being a resident of the City, shall not remove his or her residence from the City during the term of such appointment.
Candidates must meet all WV Code provisions for the appointment and confirmation of a Chief of Police under current state law.

Thanksgiving Closures
Holiday in the Park
The “Holiday in the Park” Holiday Drive-Through Lights Display at Parkersburg City Park will be held November 20 through December 30.
Donations to the Holiday in the Park organization are gladly accepted by volunteers each evening. Thank you for your continued support of the organization and event.
Floodwall Maintenance
The City Of Parkersburg will be closing the Floodwall opening at Point Park on August 16 from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm for routine installation and inspection. No access will be permitted during this time.
2021 Urban Deer Hunt
The 2021 Urban Deer Hunt will begin September 4.
The proficiency test will be held Thursday, August 12 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the City Police Range, with permits distributed Friday August 13 at 8:00 AM in the Municipal Building.
A Valid WV Hunting License is REQUIRED to test.

Construction to Start on Market Street Enhancement Project
Construction on new ADA sidewalks along Market Street, from 9th street to 10th Street, is slated to begin on Friday, June 11, 2021. Improvements include the installation of new sidewalks, curb cuts, street trees and landscaping elements within the new curb extension (bump-out) features. Bump-outs are designed to encourage slower vehicular speeds, offer increased safety to pedestrians crossing the street while adding stormwater retention properties and street beautification. Work will start each day no earlier than 7:00AM and finish by 7:00PM in accordance with City Ordinance 0-621.
Funding for this project is made possible by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
